MA`O - native cotton (Gossypium sandvicense)

ma`oThe Polynesians found this plant growing here when they came to Hawaii. They used it both for making dyes for their tapas, and for medicine, both the flowers and bark were used.

For severe stomach cramps, the flowers were partly dried and then eaten, along with other plants. At the same time, the patient would drink a kind of tea made from the bark of ma'o and the bark and roots of other plants.
