I have a number of outside interests.
I surf when there's a respectable 2'-6' (Hawaiian style) south swell. I'm on the dawn patrol when friendly folks are on the waves, and the bad boys are still sleeping off last night's merriment. Surf breaks include Publics, Cunhas, occasionally Tongs, and Diamond Head.
I'm a Hang drummer. The Hang isn't really a drum - it's a melodic device in which percussion is used to make sound, but it's not a doumbek...though I have one of those too.
I am a student of the Celtic harp, and the works of Turlough O' Carolan, the last of the great Irish harpers. I study with Pamela Bruner. Aryeh Frankfurter, Dennis Doyle, Aine Minogue, and Sylvia Woods are a few harpers whose work I greatly admire and emulate.
Yes, I am a fierce fan of the Stomach Steinway (the accordion!) - I have a 120 bass Hohner and a sweet little 12-bass French musette. I play those when the boyfriend's out of town. When I was a kid, everyone was drooling over Annette Funicello - me? I really liked Myron Floren from the Lawrence Welk Show. That guy could REALLY play the accordion!
I like to take photographs. I attend an annual event called the Swamp Romp, held at Kane'ohe Marine Base. I am the official photographer for the Swamp Pigs. Here are the photos I took for the 2008 Swamp Romp; and here are the 2009 photos.
