How Do I Search NewsBank?

Searching NewsBank is easy! For basic searches, just enter your keyword(s) in the box at the top and click the green SEARCH button. If you enter two or more keywords, you will get fewer articles that match all of your words. Use quotation marks to find an exact phrase.

By default, you will get all available articles matching your search, with the most recent articles displayed first. You can restrict your search by date or change the display order by using the drop-down menus under the search box.

To narrow your search using specific fields, use the Advanced Search link (next to the green SEARCH button).

You can click on the map to narrow your search to a particular region, country, or state. Other ways to explore are available in the menu on the left, including a shortcut to the Honolulu Advertiser, Special Reports, and Hot Topics. Television and radio transcripts as well as government press releases are available under the Access Newswires & Transcripts shortcut.

Click the Help or Tutorial links in the upper right of the NewsBank screen at any time for detailed instructions and hints, or ask for help at the library Reference Desk. Formats for citing NewsBank in bibliographies and footnotes are provided in MLA and APA style.
