Scholarly

When doing research for your college assignments, you may be asked to use scholarly sources instead of popular literature. Popular literature is geared to the non-specialist and is usually written in layman's terms for a wide audience. Scholarly sources are written for a specific audience and the assumption is that the reader has some knowledge of the subject area. The language used will be specialized and the material will be documented with footnotes and bibliographies. Magazines are examples of popular sources and journals are examples of scholarly sources. The appropriate use of popular and scholarly material is a decision you must make. Previous screen
