Math 24: Elementary Algebra I

Course Description An introduction to basic algebra topics, MATH 24 is the first course in a two semester sequence of Elementary Algebra courses. Instruction includes units on operations with signed numbers, linear equations and inequalities in one variable, the coordinate plane, and linear systems in two variables. See detailed objectives. Includes both step-by-step examples and practice problems, although answers are frequently on the same page as the exercises. Bob Miller's Algebra for the Clueless - Covers signed numbers, ratio and proportion, linear equations, polynomials, and graphs, among other topics. Some very detailed example problems, with explanations given for each step in the solution. Lacks practice exercises. Circulating Books Cliffs Quick Review: Algebra I - Review of basic operations, signed numbers, equations, inequalities, graphing, word problems. Includes practice problems with solutions and a glossary. Super Review: Basic Math & Pre-Algebra - Covers signed numbers, linear equations and inqualities, graphs, word problems, and some geometry. Also reviews PCM 23 topics. Features concise exposition, with the primary focus on step-by-step solutions to numerous example problems. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Algebra, 2nd Ed. - Signed numbers, fractions, variables, linear equations, graphing, linear inequalities, linear systems. MATH 24 topics are generally covered in chapters 1-8. A glossary is provided, as are about a dozen practice problems per chapter, with answers at the end of the book. Practical Algebra: A Self-Teaching Guide - Signed numbers, linear equations, graphs. Includes numerous practice problems, with answers provided. Also covers MATH 25 topics. Quick Algebra Review: A Self-Teaching Guide - A more condensed, review-oriented version of the above book. Includes practice problems with solutions. Kiss My Math: Showing Pre-Algebra Who's Boss - Signed numbers, variables, word problems, equations, inequalities, exponents, graphing points and lines. Written in a playful, faux-magazine style.
