MATH 115: Statistics

Course Description MATH 115 covers elementary probability and statistics including standard deviation, calculations and inferences about means and proportions, normal distributions and linear correlation. See detailed objectives. Circulating Books in KCC Libary Statistical Concepts: A Basic Program - Alternates one or two-sentence explanations with check questions. Strong emphasis on vocabulary. Answers are given directly below each practice problem or review question; the book is meant to be used with a cover sheet. Programmed Reviews of Mathematics, Vol. 6: Introduction to Statistics - Practice problems with solutions and explanations. Very little separate exposition. The Ways and Means of Statistics - An older (1979) textbook. Includes examples, graphs, and practice exercises. Answers are provided for some, but not all, exercises. Understanding and Using Statistics: Basic Concepts - Another 1979 textbook. Includes answers for all practice problems with numerical solutions. Online Texts (ebrary) - KCC Students Statistics Demystified: A Self-Teaching Guide - Example problems and end-of-chapter quizzes, with answers provided. Schaum's Easy Outlines: Probability and Statistics - Straightforward exposition. Includes examples, but lacks practice exercises. Schaum's Outline of Introduction to Probability and Statistics - Offers numerous examples and practice problems, with answers. Videos Khan Academy: Statistics - Blackboard-style videos with audio narration. See also the following section on probability.
