Board Responsibilities

The Board of Directors is responsible for the development and implementation of the Center for Tropical and Subtropical Aquaculture's program policy, including concurrence on total budget issues. The Board is also responsible for development of ancillary agreements with other agencies and institutions. The Board

  • establishes initial guidelines for regional aquaculture research, development and demonstration activities;
  • appoints and removes members of the Industry Advisory Council and the Technical Committee;
  • approves the proposed strategy for selecting projects;
  • approves the priority areas and goals for industry development identified by the Industry Advisory Council;
  • approves the Annual Plan of Work, including budget allocations;
  • approves the Annual Accomplishment Report for consistency with the goals and objectives of CTSA and the authorizing legislation;
  • and develops ancillary agreements with other institutions.

The Executive Committee comprises the ranking Board member from the University of Hawaii and from The Oceanic Institute, the two institutions that co-administer the Center.

Newly appointed
JoAnn Leong, Ph. D. of the University of Hawaii, Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology and Gary D. Pruder, Ph. D. of The Oceanic Institute are the two Executive Committee members.
The Executive Committee is responsible for formulation of overall administrative policy, budget and procedures of CTSA. The Executive Committee also appoints the director of the Center.

The seven Board members represent three educational institutions and one private, non-profit research institution in the region. A brief profile of each Board member follows.
